Status of mr phillip
Hello Phillip!
Monday was a pretty stressful day. Phillip had no intention of eating what was in his bowl, he turned his nose at pumpkin andmoped…
Holy moley. Poor bubbah.

Round lunch time hubby left a message for the vet indicating Phillip still wasn’t eating.
Around 3ish i had some pretzels and shared them with phillip and he ate 3. I figured it was as close to saltines and flat gingerale as I was going to get.
He was looking pretty good and seemed to be keeping it down, then something went flying down the floor and he spun quickly to get a good look and blup…  Oopsie.
Finally the vet called and was flumoxed on what was up with our little princess.
She suggested cottage cheese and chicken rice. I was a little miffed since we hadn’t been giving him the “good food” cause she said we were being too nice (a.k.a bad parents) and he was too fat, and he needed to lose some weight. Arg!
So hubby gave him a teaspoon of cottage cheese and slurp – in it went and in it stayed! Yeah! (imagine happy dance here)

We fed him a little more later than night and also this morning and again so far so good.
We aren’t sure if he’s playing us or not, but at least he’s eating and seems to be feeling better!

Worst Parents Ever!

Poor phillip.

Mr Phillip

Turns out we are the worst parents ever…

Since Terrance passed away Phillip became the spoiled child.  He was allowed on the bed, he was allowed on the couch and on the chair…

He pretty much could do what he wanted…   Turns out all the that up and down was bad for poor mr phillip.

Sigh.

Thursday afternoon Mr Phillip started whining and whimpering. We thought he was being his normal drama queen self.

Alas by Friday we had determined that something was wrong… We told him that it had better be good cause x-rays cost money!

He promised us it was something bad.

We got a late in the day appointment in case Mr Phillip started to feel like his normal self.

Hubby had trouble getting him in the car, I had trouble getting him out – that rarely happens – he’s usually all too excited to hop right in and all too excited to get the hell out!

The Dr came in and chatted with us about Mr Phillip’s issues. He did his best to woo her with his “look how cute I am” face.

She found the place on him where he winced and squealed the most and determined that it was a back issue.

Oh dear.

She wanted x-rays and was going to give him a shot of narcotics to take the edge off his pain.

We agreed to it all, and asked for her to look for arthritis as well, since that was one of Mr Terrance’s issues last year.

She came back and saw that there was quite a bit of arthritis in his hips, but none up where his back was hurting and also no big damage where he appeared to have the most pain.

She informed us that there was definitely to be no more couch or bed and to cut out stairs if possible- since the “poop deck” is on the roof – we told her that was just not going to happen.

We took our little doped up princess home, with a bag full of drugs and hopes of a successful healing.

Throughout the weekend he pretty much didn’t eat and what did get down came up eventually – i’m pretty sure he has 2 stomachs at this point since the last thing in never seems to be what comes back out!

He seems to be better as far as his back goes – he’s able to lie on his side and doesn’t do his little whimper thing, but he’s still not eating and that’s pretty scary….

Mexicali Crab Cakes

This was another crab cake trial for hubby and I!

Since there were jalapenos in it it had to be great! I definitely liked this recipe much much much better than any of the previous ones we’ve eaten!

Mexicali Crab Cakes

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2  tablespoons  stick margarine
  • 1/4  cup  finely chopped celery
  • 1/4  cup  finely chopped red bell pepper
  • 1   tablespoon chopped seeded jalapeño pepper
  • 1/4  cup  light mayonnaise
  • 1  teaspoon  chopped fresh cilantro or parsley
  • 1  teaspoon  Dijon mustard
  • 1/2  teaspoon  garlic salt
  • 1/4  teaspoon  pepper
  • 1  large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2  cup  fresh breadcrumbs
  • 1/4  cup  chopped green onions
  • 1  pound  lump crabmeat
  • 1  (8 3/4-ounce) can no-salt-added whole-kernel corn, drained
  • 1  cup  finely crushed cornflakes
  • Cooking spray

Preparation

Preheat oven to 450°.

Saute celery, bell pepper, and jalapeño;  3 minutes or until tender. Cool.

Combine mayonnaise and the next 5 ingredients (mayonnaise through egg) in a large bowl. Add celery mixture, breadcrumbs, green onions, crabmeat, and corn, and stir well. Divide crabmeat mixture into 10 equal portions, shaping each into a 1/2-inch-thick patty. Dredge patties in cornflakes.

Spray pan with pam, place 3-4 patties at a time in the pan.  Turn patties over after 3 minutes, and fry an additional 3 or 4 minutes or until golden. Serve crab cakes with cocktail sauce, or ranch mixed with garlic chili sauce.
