Weird stuff

There is an adorable asian market in downtown denver!

We go at least once a month to replenish our asian staples!

This latest trip i came across this little ditty:

Yup – a squishy bottle of mayo with a cupie doll on it…

Almost bought it…yup, i almost did.

Boys will be boys

Last thursday night I arrived home to the pups, post fight, blood all over the house, whimpering at the top of the stairs when i came in…

I summoned their dad home, since Winston was all cut up and not able to move his leg.

We hoped all we be ok and that their little tiff was just that, but eventually we decided that his glassy look and lethargy was a bad thing… so 10pm off to the vet we go and more money that should be spent later…

All the circles are places where Paco chomped on Winston. oy.

Everything went pretty ok – they kept Winston overnight cause he didn’t recover well from the drugs.

He spent most of Friday sleeping and cowering from his brother. Sigh.

Fingers crossed they make up soon!

Chalk Art this weekend!

One of my favorite weekends of the summer is the one which has the Larimer Chalk Art and the People’s Fair!

Usually the hubby leaves on Saturday of this weekend and i spent it with other friends – this year his flight was sunday afternoon

I was excited to get to spend some of it with him!

I love seeing the art progress, so i take pics on say 1 and then more on day 2!

Such talent!!

Such beautiful results! The following are all high school artists!

Some other’s i liked!!

Girl trip – part 2

Luckily we both get up early – so we were up an at-um by 6:30!!

Time to head out to Colorado Monument!

We decided to do the whole 23 mile drive and stop at every pull out!

We got in a couple mini hikes and enjoyed the amazing scenery!

After a couple hours exploring nature, it was time to have some grub and head back.

We decided to try Fruita…

It was quite an experience! We enjoyed the offerings of the town and escaped as quickly as we could!

We once again yammered and played mad libs all the way home!

It was an amazingly fun trip and i can’t wait for the next one!

Yeah for girl time!

I got a last minute invite to hang with a good friend for a quick overnight business trip. I worked my butt off to get a week’s worth of work done in 3 days!

We headed out early thursday morning for Grand Junction!

We reached Grand Junction in no time – just yammering the hours away! What fun!!

We had enough time for lunch at a local brewery Rockslide Brewery an Restaurant, and desert at a local Geltao Place -Gelato Junction and Desserts – then i checked in with work, while my friend had her meeting!

After that, it was play time!!!

We started with an Alpaca farm and then onto some wine tasting!

The Alpaca farm was very very informational, and the animals were adorable – huge dogs, tons of alpacas!

Then it was wine time- but we spent so much time with the Alpacas that there were only 2 vineyards open til 6pm!

Carlson Vineyards Winery

I picked out some amazing wines and brought home 1/2 a case to share with the hubby!

On our way to the next winery we just had to stop and take a picture of some yard art…  Words cannot descibe

Graystone Winery

This port only winery, also had their own home made fudge with their port – oh my goodness! The cherry port fudge was absolutely amazing!

While driving around Palisade we noticed some strange road names. We took an extra side trip to see the best one!

We picked another brewery for dinner - Kannah Creek Brewing Company- We split an amazing salmon quesadilla and a so-so salad – but it had an amazing dressing!

After that we headed back to the room to enjoy a bottle of wine and get ready for the next day!

Successful Craft Day!

Saturday was the day! Craft day!

I invited a bunch of girl friends to come over and enjoy the day doing a craft of their choice! (instead of going to that other event, that was was far away and had specific food requirements)

I was able to produce almost 40 cards!

I have a couple new patterns – the lady bug one, and the tuxedo jacket one. Both look great, but unfortunately for my thumb have a ton of cuts, so there were not too many produced of either kind. (hello sister, got any criquit peices that look like those parts? Maybe the hat or the face? or the shoes? hmmm??)  And i made the graduation card for the nephew – i had to go look up the school colors on line – to make sure i got it right!)

My t-shirt cards, mom asked for a bunch since they were able to be sent to males a little easier than some of my other ones! (I did a purse pattern last time i made a bunch!) I had to kinda re-create the pattern since my notes were pretty bad.

I still have a couple new patters to try – a doggie one and another one that will be a surprise!

I had a jolly good time with the gals, we gossiped, we watched 80′s movies, we drank wine… it was fabulous!

Here was the menu i created for us to dine on:

  • Meatballs and sauce in the crockpot!  Mmmmm

Perhaps I over compensated and went a little crazy in the kitchen! But that is typical and now i think i have enough food in the fridge and freezer to eat brunch for the next couple months!

Books

I’ve always been an avid reader – thanks mom!

I love to read mystery, sci fi, and romance

I love to read at the gym, I love a good ending

What I don’t love – is – re-reading a book

If I know the ending, well, forget it!

So when I’m done with a book, i find a new home for it, either through gifting, paperback swap or charity…

I was out last night at book club (we meet at bars – how cool of a book club is that, i know you’re jealous)

And the waitress noticed we all had a book and that it was all the same book and said “oh, are you a book club, how cool!”

And then she went on to tell us about the book she was finishing and wondering what she wanted to read next…

At the end of the meeting I asked her if she was interested in the book we read and if she wanted mine…

I think i heard a collective gasp from the table that I would actually “give” away my book.

As I was chatting with the waitress, the hubby explained to the table that I leave/gift books everywhere I go!

I’ve given books to airline staff in multiple airports, home for girls in jamaica, and multiple hotels around the county.

The waitress was happy to have a new book, i am happy to share and not have to bring it home. I think it was a win win for everyone!

When she was bad she was horid

So there was a bit of a rough patch last week, with someone, but it all worked out.

I was chatting with someone else about what all went down and her comment was “she’s really a nice person, unless she’s crabby” and thus…

I went and found this rhyme that i recalled from my child hood, and it totally made my morning

There was a little girl,

Who had a little curl,

Right in the middle of her forehead.

When she was good,

She was very, very good,

But when she was bad, she was horrid.

I’m pretty sure I recall my mom and sister reciting this to me as a child, but i tend to block that part out. Alas it is not something about me this time, but someone else!

Happy Mama’s Day

The pup’s gave me a card yesterday

It was very sweet!

I sure do love my pups!

Don’t tell me what to do

Since, i think birth, i’ve been unlikely to do something someone commanded me to do.

Recently a weird confluence of events lead me to want to pull a – “forget it, i’m taking my ball (or frying pan) and going home” moment.

A girls weekend was set up – started by a friend of a friend – so obviously there isn’t much say on my part. I almost took the whole project over when the ball was dropped, but then it was picked up again, so i stashed my ideas for a later moment.  (and don’t worry, I’ll do it better next time…)

The weekend was finally set up – i received a notice indicating what i needed to supply. What i was to do and bring. Indicating that the host had a specific “dietary need” as well as a vegetarian and i was to bring a dish for dinner on Saturday that met these qualifications. And i was to also do a chore before i left. (really – how old am i, would i not leave someones home cleaner than when i arrived if i was a guest…) Hmmm…

Obviously this set my hair on fire.

I love to cook! Love to provide nourishment to others – so to be limited and forced to supply something specific grrrr…

Had the request comes as that – a request to help respect others desire to remain meat free and to keep healthy I totally would have respected it. As the hubby would say – being a vegitarian is a life choice not a dietary need – especially when one eats seafood…  Sigh.  (i have a number of vegetarian friends that don’t put their life style out there like a badge of honor, simply lead a life style that suits them…)

I was also annoyed when I realized this command to follow this person’s dietary needs did not take into account any one elses. Perhaps she could have asked if i had any issues or the friend i was bringing had any issues.  (my friend also happens to be vegetarian – thankfully…)

I love eating vegetarian meals (tofu, temphe, veggies, etc), so i don’t have an issue with it, but I do have an issue with being TOLD what to do…  (last time I was tasked with an appetizer with these same “restrictions” it took me hours to find a recipe – although i limited myself with an eggplant and no desire to head to the store… alas it was painful and annoying…)

I guess my main issue is – just ask…  a simple request for help…   but ask…

(I’m positive at this point my mother and sister are absolutely rolling on the floor)
